Greenwich is widely celebrated for its scenic shoreline, historic charm, and vibrant downtown. Yet beneath the town’s picture-perfect reputation lies a less visible reality: roughly one in four of our neighbors—between 25% and 28%—live below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold.
These are not abstract statistics. They are working parents, school children, and longtime seniors living with the stress of balancing basic expenses in one of the country’s most demanding cost-of-living regions.
Fortunately, Greenwich is defined as much by its heart as by its beauty. When local families face tough times, this community has a long, quiet tradition of looking out for its own—and the Greenwich Department of Human Services Fund sits at the center of that neighbor-to-neighbor support.
In 2025, the Dept of Human Services Fund provided direct assistance to more than 1,000 Greenwich residents.
These are just three of the ways the Fund supported our neighbors:
• Boots & Shoes: Provided 185 children with new footwear, helping them walk into school prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

• Campership: Gave 120 children the opportunity to attend summer camp, where they could learn, play, and make friends. For families with working parents, camp also provided safe, reliable care and peace of mind during the summer months.
• Holiday Aid: Helped 1,109 Greenwich residents celebrate the holidays with food, gift cards, and gifts. For neighbors stretched thin by everyday expenses, that support can mean a holiday meal on the table and the joy of giving a child a gift.
The Dept of Human Services Fund runs with very littleoverhead, allowing the majority of every donation to stay right here in Greenwich and go directly toward helping our neighbors.
Greenwich thrives when each neighbor has a chance to thrive, too. In a town with such an enduring spirit of generosity, even a small gesture can make a difference for a local family.
