2023 Greenwich Campership Program Needs Your Help!

The annual Greenwich Campership Program, administered by the Program Division of the Department of Human Services, makes it possible for children from low-income Greenwich families to enjoy a memorable and fun-filled experience at summer camp and older adults age 55 and over to enjoy a summer program away from home.

Full and partial scholarships are available to many local day camps, as well as, a few sleep-away camps in Connecticut.

At camp, children have an opportunity to develop new friendships, play sports, and participate in arts and crafts and other activities in a positive and supervised environment. A camp experience stimulates new interests, and helps a child develop resourcefulness, social skills and a positive self-image. In addition, camp provides child care to enable parents to maintain employment during the summer months.

To qualify for a full camp scholarship, a child’s family income must not exceed 300% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. This means that a family of four earning $7,500 a month or less is eligible to receive full payment of camp fees. Exceptions are sometimes made for families with extenuating circumstances.

In 2023, 160+ children applied for summer camp and 20 seniors applied for Adult Camp.

Thanks to generous donations, the 2022 Campership Program was back to pre-pandemic operations. 86 families applied for campership and 120 individual scholarships were awarded. All camps that traditionally participate in the Campership Program were open. The demand for camp was huge with some camps selling out within weeks of opening registration.

Overall, the children were excited to play with peers and enjoy summer activities. For our older adults, 19 Greenwich residents were able to attend our 2022 Adult Camp at CONNRI Lodge, located on a beautiful 52-acre private lake. This 4-day session included delicious meals, fun games, boat rides, crafts, plus more.

Camp scholarships are funded through contributions from community groups, businesses, corporations and individuals.

Without generous support from donors, children can be left with limited enrichment opportunities throughout the summer. We need your support for the 2023 Campership Program. Please consider donating today!
