Friends of Binney Park’s Annual Meeting to Feature Winner of Turtle Mascot Naming Contest

On Wednesday, January 17 the Friends of Binney Park will hold its first annual meeting and announce the winner of the turtle mascot naming contest at the Old Greenwich Firehouse meeting room on Sound Beach Ave starting at 7:00pm.

The Mascot Turtle Selection Committee reviewed well over 150 entries. The winner of the contest and several runners up will each receive a plush stuffed turtle and appropriate applause and recognition.

The gathering, on the second floor of the firehouse is free and open to anyone with an interest in Binney Park. Activities will begin at 7:00pm and last until 8:15pm. Light refreshments will be served.

The program will include a brief business meeting including voting for new Directors. Helen Delago, who aided Mrs. Edwin Binney in her final years, will be interviewed for her insights about Mrs. Binney and her family’s importance as environmentalists.

Lisa Beebe, Greenwich Town Arboretum Curator, and the person most responsible for labeling trees in our public parks, will discuss her past work and future labeling plans.

The President of The Friends of Binney Park, Peter Uhry, expressed his “excitement to bring together individuals who love and support Binney Park and what it means to the community.”

The Friends of Binney Park is an all-volunteer group whose aims include working with Greenwich town officials for the ongoing improvement of Binney Park for all visitors. The Friends was established in the fall of 2022 and has since grown to nearly 250 members.
