Friends of Greenwich Library to Host an Evening of Broadway Cabaret

The Friends of Greenwich Library are pleased to host a special night of cabaret performances with How I Got to Broadway: A Cabaret. The event will be held in the Library’s Berkley Theater on Monday, January 22 at 7:00pm.

This special performance will consist of solos, duets, and personal stories performed by some of today’s most talented and inspiring artists in musical theater, including Jordan Dobson, Kimber Sprawl, and Mare Winningham. How I Got to Broadway is produced and directed by NYC vocal coach Aimée Steele. Musician Robert Frost will accompany on piano.

Jordan Dobson’s Broadway credits include playing Prince Sebastian in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bad Cinderella, Orpheus in Hadestown, Shilo in A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, and serving as an understudy for Tony in the Ivo Van Hove-directed revival of West Side Story. Select regional work includes Hair (Two River Theatre), Austen’s Pride, Into the Woods (ACT of Connecticut), The Wanderer (Papermill Playhouse), Cabaret, Gypsy (Arden Theatre Co.), Hamlet (Oguma Playhouse), and The Color Purple (Theatre Horizon). He can be seen in the new Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro, directed by Bradley Cooper.

Kimber Sprawl has spent almost a decade in New York City living her dream as an artist. Broadway credits include Wicked (Nessarose), Girl from the North Country (Marianne Lane, at The Public Theater), A Bronx Tale (Jane), and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical; she toured with Disney’s The Lion King (Sarabi/Nala cover). Her film and television credits include East New York, That Damn Michael Che, and Inside Amy Schumer. Kimber is happily engaged to her high school bestie, Zach.

Mare Winningham has had a varied and decorated career, which includes two Emmy Awards and nine other nominations, including Oscar and Tony nods. Her television credits include Dopesick, Mildred Pierce, Hatfields & McCoys, The Outsider, four seasons of American Horror Story, and The Affair. Her theater work includes A Man of No Importance (Drama Desk nomination); Girl from the North Country (Tony and Lortel nominations); Casa Valentina (Outer Critics Circle Award, Tony nomination); Picnic; Tribes (Lortel nomination); After the Revolution; 10 Million Miles (Lortel Award; Drama League and Drama Desk nominations). Her films include Georgia (Academy Award nomination), St. Elmo’s Fire, Dark Waters, and Philomena.

Aimée Steele was the vocal coach for the Broadway revival West Side Story and the production vocal coach of Broadway’s Girl from the North Country. She is currently working with the cast members of the new musical The Buena Vista Social Club. In addition to her private voice studio, Aimée is on faculty at The National Music Theater Institute at the O’Neill Theater as well as The Performing Arts Project (TPAP) for Theatrical Training. She is a board member of the award-winning Transport Group Theatre Company. Past positions include Voice Professor at Pace University; Adjunct Voice Professor at NYU/Tisch, The New Studio on Broadway; and associate voice teacher with Liz Caplan Vocal Studios. Aimée’s students are featured on Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, and regionally as well as in the recording industry, film, and television. She has students in the classical world and on opera stages worldwide.

Robert Frost is a New York City-based music director, pianist, and educator. Select musical director credits include Half the Sky (5th Ave Theatre/Theatre Latte Da); Minor Character (New Saloon/Under the Radar); (An Audio Guide for) Unsung Snails and Heroes (MTC); Miss Blanche Tells It All (NYMF); We Live in Cairo and Cardboard Piano (O’Neill Theater Center); Dory Fantasmagory (NYCCT); Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady (Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre). As a pianist and music director, Robert has also worked with Ogunquit Playhouse, Arkansas Rep, Berkshire Theater Group, New Georges, NYU, Celebrity Cruises, Molloy College, New Dramatists, and Lincoln Center. As an educator, Robert has worked with Brown University, Hunter College, LIU Post, and Connecticut College. Robert serves on the faculty of New Studio on Broadway at NYU and the O’Neill Theater Center’s National Musical Theater Institute.
