These are the stories our ancestors tried to bury.

You are invited to this fascinating evening with historian and Greenwich native Missy Wolfe, as she uncovers the hidden past of our town—before it became the Greenwich we know today.

What really happened? You’ll learn surprising truths about Greenwich’s origins, including its early identity as a Dutch territory, and its unexpected role in the largest Indian massacre in the Northeast.

Missy Wolfe spent years researching and uncovering the real truth about the roots of
Greenwich.

Journey back to the 1600s to experience the untouched landscapes seen by the first European colonists – the native Americans, Dutch and English settlers.

There were ongoing conflicts between these groups, especially the early settlers in Greenwich.  Discover long-lost place names like “Woman Tongue Road”— a path so winding it was “hard for men to follow”—and explore how early settlers scraped a living from the rough, unforgiving land of wild horse hunters, herdsmen, townsmen, pounders and planters.

Missy Wolfe is the award-winning author of Insubordinate Spirit, which won the Washington Irving Medal for Literary Excellence, and her latest book brings to light new findings based on her deep dive into Greenwich’s 17th-century archives.

A graduate of Columbia Business School and former advertising executive, Wolfe has devoted her later years to historical research and writing, becoming a passionate storyteller of Connecticut’s colonial past.
