This fall, Greenwich Mahjong Club is expanding its programming with a new Fast Track Chinese Mahjong course alongside its signature American Mahjong offerings.
Mahjong originated in China and has evolved into many different styles around the world. American Mahjong developed its own distinctive rules, vocabulary and rhythm, while Chinese Mahjong provides the original framework and universal language of the game, carrying the history, traditions and foundational strategies that continue to shape Mahjong around the world today.
For Jackie Moy, founder of Greenwich Mahjong Club, offering both is a natural extension of the club’s growing programs.
Born in Hong Kong and a longtime Greenwich resident, Moy teaches both American and Chinese Mahjong with an approach that brings timeless traditions together with modern teaching, giving local players more ways to learn and enjoy the game.

The club’s American Mahjong program remains a cornerstone of its offerings, with a structured beginner curriculum designed to take new players from their first introduction to confident play. The new Fast Track Chinese Mahjong course offers another entry point for complete beginners as well as players who are curious to experience the game at its roots through a clear, approachable and modern teaching format.
Players can try both styles at the upcoming Fall Festival at the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, which has served as Greenwich Mahjong Club’s home base since reopening.
Beyond lessons and leagues at the Civic Center, Greenwich Mahjong Club hosts pop-up gatherings at local venues such as Athena Books in Old Greenwich and Stamford Diner, offers seasonal community lessons at Greenwich Library, and brings Mahjong programs to private clubs and corporate events.
