Scott Karsen, a lifelong member of the Greenwich community, passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 55.
Born on May 7, 1971, Scott was the beloved son of Deborah Niman Purdy and grew up in Greenwich surrounded by a close and loving extended family. Scott graduated from Greenwich High School and went on to attend Westfield State College.
Scott took tremendous pride in establishing Scott Karsen Aquatics, a business that allowed him to share one of his greatest passions with generations of local families. Teaching children how to swim was far more than a profession to Scott. Helping young swimmers gain confidence, feel safe in the water, and discover the joy of swimming was deeply meaningful to him and brought him enormous happiness. He treasured the relationships he built with the children and families he taught throughout the years.
Scott is survived by his loving mother, Deborah Niman Purdy of Greenwich; his son, Dylan Karsen of Millbury, Massachusetts; his aunt and uncle, Judy and Carmen Moretti of Greenwich; and his cousins, Susan and Mike Bodson of Greenwich, Cheryl and Richard McManus of Cary, North Carolina, and Michelle and Craig Albanese of Greenwich, along with their families.
Scott was predeceased by his brother, Mark Karuzas; his grandparents, Rose and Harry Niman; and his aunt, Barbara Fisher.
Scott’s life was rooted in family, community, and the work that gave him such a strong sense of purpose. His family hopes that those who knew him will remember not only the lessons he taught in the water, but also the encouragement, patience, and confidence he gave to so many children along the way.
Scott will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and the many Greenwich families whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, August 13, from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3, Greenwich. A funeral service celebrating Scott’s life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 14, at 10:00am, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery on North Street in Greenwich.
