Dorothy Crawford, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Dorothy left her family to immigrate to the States. This was a true fairytale. It was here that she married the love of her life Alexander, also from Glasgow, Scotland. Together they worked hard, built a home, and created a life filled with love, family, and many cherished memories.
Dorothy and her husband, Alex were blessed with two daughters, Catherine Stoltenhoff (Bruce) and Audrey DeCrescenzo (Michael); and grandchildren Alexandra Solomon (Justin), Erich Stoltenhoff (Tiffany), Mike DeCrescenzo, and Victoria DeCrescenzo, as well as great-grandchildren Madison and Hannah Solomon.
Family was Dorothy’s whole world. Her greatest joy was simply being surrounded by those she loved – watching her family grow and sharing in all of life’s moments. She never missed an opportunity to be part of the action. Always was ready for a good dance party and a sing-song. Her love for travel took her to places all over the world, she left a little piece of herself everywhere she went.
Dorothy also treasured her dear Scottish friends known to all as “The YAYA’s.”
Nearly every afternoon she would head to Byram Beach to meet them. There they would sit together, share their stories of the day, exchange secrets, and reminisce about Scotland. The laughter echoed the beach.
Dorothy will always be remembered for her selfless acts of kindness, her gentle way with her words, and her beautiful, dancing blue eyes. She will be missed.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers and medical professionals who supported Dorothy along her journey, with special thanks to Dr. Sung Lee, Dr. Caroline Lodato, Lynn Carbino, RN, Nancy Scofield, RN and her dedicated hospice nurses from Constellation.
To honor Dorothy’s life, a Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 14 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry Street, Greenwich. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
