Connecticut State Police shared a traffic alert on Wednesday afternoon that I-95 northbound at Exit 5 in Greenwich was closed following a tractor-trailer crash with injuries, a fuel spill and significant damage to guardrails.
State Police advised drivers to seek alternate routes.
The closure was announced shortly before noon.
Residents reported being stuck for on I-95 hours and some shared photos taken from overpasses that showed the jackknifed tractor trailer and scattered pallets of bricks.
Traffic also backed up on Route 1 in Greenwich.
