Prihoda: Every Informed Vote Makes a Difference

Submitted by Monica Prihoda, Riverside

As a first generation American, whose parents immigrated from Europe, it was instilled in me the privilege of having the right to vote freely.

It is incredibly important as American citizens to be informed stewards of our country.

The Board of Estimate and Budget (BET) is the most impactful Greenwich government body as it has full control of how our taxpayer dollars are spent.  The BET consists of 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats, however one party gets the final say.

Essentially, whichever party gets the most votes gets the chair and the chair has a tie-breaking vote – allowing winner take all.

We don’t have to dig far:  Republican BET members hurt our community.  Recent examples are $4 million cuts and lip service to our schools and an expensive lawsuit by the First Selectman against our very own Board of Education (BOE) and litigation after a Police Captain was fired for exercising his free speech. You and I are paying that bill.

Is that how you want your tax dollars spent?  I don’t.

Join me in voting ROW A DEMOCRATS ONLY for the BET to win the tie breaking vote on budget decisions.

Now it’s up to us to exercise our power to vote.

Respectfully,
Monica Prihoda
