DesChamps: Elect Leaders Who Listen

Submitted by Matt DesChamps, Democratic candidate running for re-election to the Greenwich Board of Estimate and Taxation

Dear Neighbor,

I’m Matt DesChamps, and I’m seeking re-election to the Greenwich Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET). Greenwich needs stable, facts-based leadership—leaders who prioritize results over politics and know how to build consensus across party lines.

As a former Republican, I understand firsthand how divided the BET has become. I’ve seen how dysfunction and political posturing on the Republican-controlled BET have eroded trust, delayed essential projects, and threatened responsible budgeting. Greenwich deserves better.

With 30 years of experience on Wall Street and as a Certified Public Accountant, I’ve built businesses, advised hundreds of clients, and helped families plan for the future. I know the importance of transparency, discipline, and strategic investment—principles that form the foundation of both sound business and good government.

Our Democratic Team is Ready to Lead

The six Democratic candidates for BET bring decades of experience in finance, law, accounting, and management. Our shared goal is to implement a fiscally responsible and professional approach to budgeting that safeguards essential services and maintains low taxes. We are committed to long-term solutions, not quick fixes.

Here’s what we’re ready to deliver if you vote Row A:

  • A Bipartisan Budget Reform Team: We will establish a working group comprised of financial experts—Republicans, Democrats, and unaffiliated residents—to improve the capital budgeting process, making it accurate, transparent, and free from political interference.

  • Smarter Investments: We’ll scrutinize every line item for efficiencies while investing in strategic cost-savers like energy upgrades, waste management, and flood mitigation—projects that reduce operating costs and tax burdens.

  • Support for Public Safety and Accessibility: We’ll ensure police, fire, and flood control are adequately funded, along with ADA compliance.

  • Top-Quality Schools: We want Greenwich Public Schools to be the best in Connecticut. That starts with stable, effective funding backed by independent financial analysis, ensuring every dollar delivers value.

  • Outside Funding Sources: We will actively seek state and federal grants and private partnerships to lessen the burden on local taxpayers.

  • Support for Seniors and Affordability: We’ll advocate for improvements to the Wallace Senior Center and expand tax relief programs to help seniors remain in their homes.

I understand the strain high taxes put on families, seniors, and small businesses. That’s why BET Democrats are committed to keeping taxes low—while still making the smart investments Greenwich needs for a sustainable future.

Let’s Move Greenwich Forward—Together

Leadership starts at the top, but lasting progress requires teamwork. It’s time to restore financial discipline, remove politics from the budgeting process, and focus on facts—not factions.

On November 4th, please vote for all 6 Democratic candidates for BET on Row A. With your support, we’ll gain the tie-breaking vote and bring accountability, transparency, and balance back to Greenwich’s finances.
