A Mini-Bike Rider, 13, Killed in Hit-and-Run on Stamford’s Courtland Ave

Stamford Police issued a news release saying their  Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad was investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash between a vehicle and a mini-bike in the area of 316 Courtland Ave on Saturday around 8:47 pm.

Police said the mini-bike rider, age 13, was headed southbound and was with a family member who was on a scooter at the time of the incident.

According to the release, “They had pulled out of the travel lane and over to the shoulder of Courtland Ave for an unknown reason. As they were sitting on the side of the road, an, as of yet, unidentified vehicle struck the mini bike, causing the 13 year-old victim to be thrown from the mini bike and into the yard of a private residence.”

Police said two neighbors that lived in the area heard the collision and came out of their homes to assist. Both performed CPR on the victim, until CPR was taken over by the Fire Department. The victim was transported to Stamford Hospital.

Police said, despite a valiant effort by neighbors, the Stamford Fire Department, Stamford EMS and Stamford Hospital ED personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Due to his age, the identity of the juvenile victim will not be released.

The vehicle that was involved fled the scene of the collision.

Based on evidence located at the scene, the suspect vehicle is a silver Honda, possibly an Accord, model year 2003-2007. There is also the possibility that this vehicle is multicolored with after market parts that may not match the original color of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle will also have significant damage to the front passenger side, and missing part of the front bumper.

There are no suspects at this time.
