To the Editor:
Partner abuse is shockingly rampant in Greenwich, Fairfield County and nationally according to police records, and many incidents go unreported. It’s only gotten worse during and since Covid.
You don’t have to look like Barbie, though many do. And that goes for straight Ken and gay Ken or Barbie. All you have to do is be the target of someone’s uncontrolled rage.
Boxing. A violent “sport,” akin to the Roman Colosseum in days of yore where brutal matches were exhibited. A choice to do it – OK! A choice to watch it – or not.
It is ironic, an oxymoron if you will, that the sport chosen to showcase charitable giving is boxing. A noble cause from fundraiser ‘Glove Up Greenwich,’ at first glance for a worthy goal – to raise money for charities – among them a refuge for abuse victims. Of course they need the money!
Why not choose the currently locally popular, and played by residents, Pickle ball? or Tennis? or Golf?
OR – just give directly to the charities themselves? Now, that’s a concept.
Respectfully,
Monica Prihoda
