New Assistant Principal Appointed at Central Middle School

Superintendent of Schools William McKersie has appointed Shamain Johnson as Assistant Principal at Central Middle School (CMS), effective July 16, 2014.

Johnson will join Principal Shelley Somers and assistant principal Jo Frame.

Most recently, Ms. Johnson served as Assistant Principal and Early Learning Services Coordinator for the Stratford Public Schools.

“We had a strong candidate pool for the CMS Assistant Principal position.  It is a compliment for all of us that we have landed the proven talent of Ms. Johnson,” McKersie said in a statement. “We look forward to her joining our leadership ranks.”

“We are anxious to welcome Shamain to Central Middle School. She impressed us with her range of experience, innovative approach to problem-solving, and excellent leadership skill for establishing collaborative learning communities,” said Central Middle School Principal Shelley Somers in the statement. “She clearly understands and enjoys working with middle school-aged students and has a strong vision for improving student engagement and achievement.”

An educator for sixteen years, Ms. Johnson has worked for the Stratford Public Schools since 2005. Over the last nine years, she has served as administrator and teacher for students from Preschool through Grade 12 in Stratford. Prior to her work in the Stratford schools, Ms. Johnson taught in the Hamden and Stamford Public Schools. She has had extensive experience in the special and general education settings, and has been an Adjunct Professor at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport since 2009.

Ms. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education (1998), a Masters in Learning Disabilities (2003), and a Sixth Year Professional Diploma for Educational Leadership (2009) from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
