Christ Church to Bury a Time Capsule to Be Opened in 2049

As Christ Church celebrates its 275th Anniversary, they are going to fill and bury a time capsule to be opened 25 years from now in 2049 – their 300th Anniversary.

Jane Snowdon, Vestry Member and Chair, 275th Anniversary Committee spearheaded this project.

“The contents of this time capsule will offer a glimpse to future generations of what life was like living in 2024 and what Christ Church meant to us as a vibrant community of faith,” Snowdon said.

Included in the box will be a collection of artifacts and artwork in a scrapbook created by Christ Church’s preschool and children.

The Youth group is including a Taylor Swift DVD. There will be letters, a magazine featuring the Tomes Higgins House Designer House Showcase, current newspapers, and a photograph taken in April of this year of the Christ Church clergy, Vestry, and the Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, the Rt. Rev. Laura Ahrens.

The box will also include  a 1979 Book of Common Prayer, a children’s bible, our “Seasons” Membership Planner, and 275th Anniversary memorabilia.

“By burying this time capsule, Christ Church Greenwich is celebrating our past and looking to the future,” said Dominic Casserley, Senior Warden of Christ Church Greenwich.  “It contains both celebrations of the faith of the Christ Church community and reflections on living in Greenwich and our world today, in 2024.  We hope that it will be both exciting and also a history lesson for our successors to open this time capsule in 2049”
