What to Look for in the 2015 Nascar Season

By Ryan Bologna, Greenwich High School

With Matt Kenseth winning the Sprint Unlimited, the 2015 Nascar season has officially started.  If there was a season to watch, it would be this one.  There are many things to look for this season starting Sunday Feb. 22 at the Daytona 500.

One storyline you can’t avoid is that one of the best drivers in the history of the sport, Jeff Gordon, said that this would be his last full season running in Nascar.  He is 43 years old going into this season.  The season will be very much like a farewell tour, much like Derek Jeter’s last season.  At each track he goes to there will be fans there going to see him one last time.  This will be the last chance for his fifth championship.

Kevin Harvick, one of the best drivers who is trying to defend his championship from last year should be closely watched.  He should have a target on his back because everyone will want to beat the champion.  But he should have a fairly good season, and will most likely contend for the championship again this year.

Kyle Larson is an up and coming driver who had a very good rookie year last season.  While Jeff Gordon an older driver is going out to end an era, Kyle Larson could start a new one of his own.  Many former drivers are expecting him to breakout this season driving the 42 car.  Nascar has a bright future with him hopefully having a long career.

One of the most known drivers Jimmie Johnson will be going for his seventh championship this year, trying to tie Dale Earnhardt.  It will be exciting to see if Jimmie could join such great company.  Jimmie is already considered one of the best drivers, but this would be the icing on the cake if he could seven or even more championships with the many years he has left.

One last driver to look for this season is Danica Patrick, because she is the only female driver in Nascar.  She gets a lot of attention because of that.

But she hasn’t won a race yet heading into the third full season of her career.  Some analysts are predicting that she finally wins a race this season.  Weather or not she does she will be something to look for during the races this season, as she always is.
