In recognition of the 200th anniversary of the return of Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to Greenwich in 1824, a display case at Town Hall has been prepared to show a history of this very important patriot in our American Revolution.

The display was designed and created by Greenwich High School sophomore, Riona McKersie and was sponsored by a partnership of the Horseneck Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Greenwich Historical Society and the Alliance Française of Greenwich.
A ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 4 at Town Hall to celebrate this display. Many Town officials joined the event including First Selectman Fred Camillo, Selectwoman, Janet Stone McGuigan, Superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools, Dr. Toni Jones, Town Clerk Jackie Budkins, Tax Collector Heather Smeriglio, Riona’s AP US History Teacher Ryan Jones and Marc D’Amico, who is Chief Officer of K-12 Curriculum and Leadership for Greenwich Schools.
All in attendance enjoyed French and American decorated petit fours baked by Riona’s mother and Horseneck DAR Chapter member, Katherine McKersie.

Please note that the Alliance Francaise Greenwich has awarded their Lafayette College Scholarship Award to Indira Brou, a senior at Greenwich High School. Indira’s essay is also included in the display.
Lafayette arrived in Greenwich on August 20, 1824, and this anniversary will be celebrated with upcoming events, sponsored by the Horseneck Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Greenwich Historical Society and the Alliance Francaise Greenwich, on August 18 and August 19.
