Greenwich Schools Superintendent, GHS Headmaster Issue Statement on Untimely Death of Teen

A joint statement from the Greenwich High School headmaster and Greenwich Public Schools interim superintendent was issued on Monday morning.

“We were saddened to learn yesterday of the untimely death of one of our Greenwich High School students from the Class of 2018 (a current junior),” said Superintendent Dr. Sal Corda.

According to the statement, Dr. Winters convened the GHS crisis team at GHS on Sunday to coordinate support for the family, and our students and staff.

“We are all grieving this tragic loss and our hearts go out to the student’s family and friends,” Dr. Winters said in the statement. “We notified students and parents of this tragedy on Sunday afternoon, and advised them that our mental health staff will be available all day today to assist any student or family that may need support.”

Winters went on to say that students were also advised that if they feel unable to take a final exam, they should meet with their guidance counselor to discuss options. “Decisions about deferring final exams will be handled on a case-by-case basis,” he said.

The name of the student is not being released and no other details are available at this time.
