Never in the 17-year history of the New England Interscholastic Spirit Championship has a cheer team from Connecticut won the Division 1 title.
Until now.
On Saturday, March 22, Greenwich High School Varsity Cheer took first place in a competition that included the top cheer teams of public and private high schools in the states of MA, ME, VT, NH, RI and CT.
This has been an unprecedented season for GHS Varsity Cheer… a Triple Crown year.
They kicked it off by taking home the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) LL championship title–one they hadn’t won in 21 years.
Next came Connecticut States at the CIAC Cheer Championship Finals, which was the team’s first win in 18 years. Topped off by the pinnacle win at Regionals on Saturday.

“I truly can’t express how proud I am of this team and what they accomplished this season,” Greenwich Varsity Cheer Head Coach, Julia Vyskocil said in a release. “They are the hardest working, most dedicated group of athletes, and even more amazing people. They deserve this! Witnessing them push themselves this season, accomplish their goals, and win has been incredible. But, watching them find confidence in themselves, recognize the hard work and effort they have put in, develop mental resilience, grow as people, and support each other, has been the real reward for me. These girls made history, and I am so incredibly honored to be their coach!”
In addition to the stellar season, five athletes were selected as CHSCA All-State Cheerleaders: Seniors Jane Trager (All Academic) and Siera Rollins and Juniors Claire Kilcullen, Ingrid Imp and Leila Alza.
Three athletes selected as All-FCIAC Cheerleaders: Seniors Jane Trager, Siera Rollins and Sierra Erensen.
Five athletes were also selected as NCA All American Cheerleaders: Seniors Jane Trager, Siera Rollins and Sierra Erensen, Junior Ingrid Imp and Sophomore Darby Kent.
Congratulations to the Greenwich Varsity Cheerleaders, 2025 FCIAC, CLASS LL STATE, and D1 NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONS.
