GPS Superintendent Appoints Kerry Gavin Interim Principal at Cos Cob School

Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones today announced the appointment of Kerry Gavin as interim principal at Cos Cob School, effectively immediately.

Mr. Gavin replaces Mr. Gene Schmidt, who recently retired after holding the position since 2013.

Mr. Gavin will serve as the chief administrator of Cos Cob School to develop and implement policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets and to promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

“Kerry Gavin has proven to be one of the most passionate and inspiring administrators Greenwich Public Schools has to offer, and we are thrilled to now have him lead Cos Cob School,” Dr. Jones said. “He has superior communication and collaboration skills and I am confident that he will continue to carry on the great educational traditions the Cos Cob community is accustomed to having.”

Gavin began his career as an educator with Greenwich Schools in 1994, and most recently held the position of assistant principal at Western Middle School since 2016. Serving first as a paraprofessional, and then as a French teacher at Greenwich High School and Western MS, he was also an assistant dean from 2011 through 2016, interim World Language coordinator K-12 in 2015, and the summer school program site supervisor in 2016.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to be the interim principal of Cos Cob School,” Gavin said. “Having grown up in the Town of Greenwich, I am well aware of Cos Cob’s tremendous history and I am elated to have the opportunity to continue a tradition of excellence in this great community. I look forward to working with the amazing staff and establishing a partnership in the service of the children and families of Cos Cob.”

Gavin holds a bachelor’s in French from the College of the Holy Cross, a master’s in Teaching and Curriculum from Fairfield University, and an Educational Leadership Program 092 endorsement and 6th year degree from the University of Bridgeport.
