Countdown to Greenwich School Start Time Recommendation includes “Community Engagement Sessions”

nap matGreenwich Schools released a statement on Wednesday saying Superintendent of Schools Bill McKersie is scheduled to present a recommendation on possible changes to K-12 school start (and dismissal) times to the Board of Education on May 12 at 7:00 p.m. at North Street School.

The School Start Time Steering Committee will hold a series of Community Engagement Sessions in advance of and following the Superintendent’s recommendation. The sessions are designed to provide the Greenwich community with opportunities to learn about possible school start and dismissal time options and implications, and to provide feedback. In addition, the community is invited to attend Board of Education meetings and School Start Time Steering Committee meetings over the next several months to follow the development of and discussions on the options. Details on these engagement opportunities may be found in the attached flyer and on the GPS web site at www.greenwichschools.org/sst

“The District has secured the services of transportation consultant, School Bus Consultants, to lead us through this very important work and facilitate the engagement sessions, ” Cynthia Womack said in the statement. Womack is the project manager for the school start time effort. “Each Community Engagement Session will be preceded by presentation documents available for review on the GPS/SST web site.”

The first set of Community Engagement Sessions in the series will be held in April prior to the Superintendent’s recommendation and will present the options and alternatives.

The same information will be presented at each of the three April Sessions. The second set of Community Engagement Sessions in the series will be held in May, after the Superintendent’s presentation to the BOE on May 12, and will provide an opportunity to discuss the recommendation and the plans for implementing changes to school start and dismissal times. The same information will be presented at each of the two May Sessions

The Board of Education is scheduled to act on the Superintendent’s recommendation on June 16, 2016, 7:00 p.m. at New Lebanon School.
