Central Middle School Open Enrollment for 2026-2027 – More Spots Available

A second round of Open Enrollment is open for the new Central Middle School and is available to all Greenwich residents whose children will be in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade next year and are zoned for Eastern or Western Middle Schools.

The form will close on April 3 at midnight. If more students apply than space is available, a lottery for the open enrollment spots will be held on or before April 8. Transportation for students out of the zone must be provided by the family.

Last week Principal Healy and the PTA hosted a virtual informational session, and you can watch or rewatch the recording on the district’s webpage dedicated to all things CMS open enrollment.

During the presentation administration introduce themselves starting with the principal who has been at the school for a decade, attended the school himself, and whose own children attended CMS.

The presentation takes the viewer through the building from the wood and stone facade and the secure entry way to media center, auditorium,  gymnasium and fitness center.

The school was designed to have abundant natural light and the bright entryway features a secure vestibule and a “mantrap” where visitors communicate to the office staff.

Inside the entryway are admin offices, counselor offices and nurse’s station.

The center of the building features the auditorium and music classrooms.

The media center is in the actual center of the building.

The cafeteria is designed to have grade level lunches, meaning all students in the grade will eat at the same time. Instead of the current two small lunch rooms, there will be one large lunchroom to seat up to 235 to 240 children.

The second floor features 6th, 7th and 8th grade pods each with common areas, science rooms, world language rooms, regular academic classrooms and academic labs for special education.

Principal Healy talks about the CMS close-knit culture, active PTA, clubs and activities, annual musical and competitive academic clubs and teams, including science team, debate team and chess team.

Projections for enrollment next year are 170 students in the 6th grade, 133 in seventh grade and 163 in eighth grade for next year – for a total of 466 students.

The presentation mentions some highlights of the student experience including the annual sixth grade students trip to to Outdoor Classroom (formerly known as Nature’s Classroom), a camp in Massachusetts where the students enjoy a three-day “out-of-comfort-zone” experience at the beginning of the school year.

Seventh graders enjoy a team-building field trip to Tod’s Point called a “mountain workshop experience,” where for example, one of the challenges student have the option to try is to build a raft and row it around a buoy.

CMS has had many championship athletic teams including boys volleyball and basketball. There are spirit weeks and pep rallies to celebrate the student-athletes and bring the community together. If a team makes it to a championship, they organize a fan bus for students to go to cheer on their team.

Currently the school is in the midst of March Madness with a three-on-three basketball tournament underway. The winning student team will face off against a teacher team in a school-wide event. They school also organizes a dodgeball tournament everyone enjoys.

There are numerous after school clubs and activities after school with a late bus for students three days a week including a pop up cooking club, running club, comic club, garden club, yarn & craft, and several music opportunities including jazz ensemble, chamber orchestra, and chorus.

Also, three days a week the PE teachers open the gym early in the morning for open gym.

Watch the presentation because there is much more valuable information.
