Weekend Smash-and-Grab Burglaries Targeted Gas Station and Deli

Two smash and grab burglaries over the weekend in Greenwich may be connected to others in Port Chester and Rye Brook.

According to Lt. Kraig Gray, a report of a burglary from the Sunoco Gas Station on Indian Field Rd came in at about 3:00am on June 3.  Coincidentally, the call came in right around the time Greenwich Police were pursuing two suspects in a car theft incident initiated in nearby Bruce Park.

At the Sunoco, the thief or thieves smashed the window, grabbed the cash from the register and fled.In the second incident,  the Stateline Deli at 699 West Putnam Ave was targeted. Lt. Gray said the time of that incident is unknown, as an employee called to report the incident after arriving at work in the morning. At the Stateline Deli, the front door was smashed and items were thrown on the floor , which police believe was an attempt to reach the cash register. The cash drawer was removed.

“We’re operating off the theory that it’s connected to two smash and grabs that took place earlier in the night in Rye Brook and in Port Chester,” Lt. Gray said, adding that if anyone saw anything they should contact Greenwich Police.
