VIDEO: Brazen Thieves Drive Off with Mercedes Briefly Unattended at Gas Station

Greenwich Police are reminding residents to lock their cars and bring their keys with them at all times. While there have been numerous instances of unlocked cars left with keys inside that have been stolen from driveways, particularly in the overnight hours, it’s a good habit to lock up even for a five minute errand.

On Friday morning around 10:35am, brazen thieves followed a driver into the Shell station at 401 West Putnam Avenue. When she went inside the station to pay, the thieves made their move.

It all happened in just a few seconds, but the incident was captured on the gas station security cameras.

Watch the first car drive up in front of the Mercedes. A passenger wearing a dark jacket over a red hoodie and light color pants exits from the back seat of the first vehicle and casually walks over to the Mercedes parkedat one of the gas pumps and gets in. Moments later the two cars drive off in tandem, heading east on Putnam Avenue.

According to Greenwich Police Captain John Slusarz an investigation is under way.
