Trio Charged after License Plate Reader Alerts Police to Stolen Vehicle

On Jan 17 Greenwich Police arrested three men on East Putnam Ave in Riverside after receiving a License Plate Reader alert that a stolen motor vehicle was traveling through Greenwich near I95 exit 5 and East Putnam Ave.

Officers located the vehicle at the at the Shell Gas Station at 1479 East Putnam Ave and successfully detained all three occupants of the vehicle.

Police said that during the course of their investigation, officers spoke with all three occupants of the vehicle. Each one providing inconsistent and conflicting statements regarding their whereabouts, destination and the circumstances surrounding their use of the vehicle. Additionally officers confirmed through NYPD and U-Haul that the vehicle had not been lawfully returned and has been reported as stolen.

Based on the inconsistent statements from the three men and confirmation of the vehicle’s status as stolen, officers determined they had probable cause to arrest all three men.

During a search incident to arrest of Abdu-Rahein Joseph Doolittle, 52, of Forest Hills, NY, officers located counterfeit drivers’ licenses and two counterfeit Citi Bank credit cards. Joseph Doolittle was charged with Larceny 1, Forgery 2 (2 counts) and Forgery 3 (2 counts). His bond was set at $100,000 and he was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 26, 2026.

Also arrested was James Lee Cummings, 30, of Bronx, NY. He was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1. His bond was set at $100,000 and he was also assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 26, 2026.

The third man arrested was Calvin T Doolittle, 40, of Astoria Queens. He was charged with Conspiracy to commit Larceny 1. His bond was set at $100,000. He shares the date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 26, 2026.
