Greenwich Police arrested a youthful offender last Friday, Nov 15, after he crashed a vehicle near the sundial landmark in Bruce Park.
Police said that when they arrived on scene around 10:30pm, they located several possibly injured parties as a result of the crash, including the suspect, age 17, who was determined to have been the driver.
While speaking to the suspect police determined he had red glassy eyes and that in the crashed vehicle there was an empty handle of Bacardi rum.
He was unable to perform field sobriety tests to standard. He later provided two breath samples which indicated an elevated BAC level.
The driver and other occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital. It was determined none of them sustained serious injuries.
The 17-year-old was charged with DUI (under 21), Failure to Drive Right, and CGS, 4-36g(a)(1) which restricts transportation of passengers and hours of operation by 16/17 Year Olds with a New License, months 1-6.
He was able to post the required 7% cash option of his $300 bond and was released. He is due in Stamford Superior Court on Dec 2, 2024.
