Suspect in Greenwich Ave Jewelry Store Robbery Wore a Wig and Makeup

On Saturday afternoon around 3:30pm, a suspect, later identified as Edgardo Bautista-Gallardo, 19, with a last known address of 700 Hyde Street, San Fransico, CA, entered 140 Greenwich Ave (the address associated with Tiffany & Co)  and requested to see jewelry from store associates.

Police say Mr. Buatista-Gallardo was wearing a wig and makeup.

After the jewelry was shown, Bautista-Gallardo displayed a gun and told the employees and the security guard he was going to shoot them if they did not give him the jewelry.  They cooperated and gave him the jewelry.  Bautista-Gallardo then fled the store.

The security guard followed from behind and contacted 911 and relayed Bautista-Gallardo’s direction to the Dispatch Center.

Greenwich Police Detectives were in the area where the suspect was fleeing and chased him. After a brief foot pursuit they apprehended Bautrista-Gallardo in the area of the Town Hall parking lot.

Greenwich Police officers were able to recover the gun, a BB gun, and the jewelry Bautista-Gallardo tried to rob. The jewelry had an estimated value of $175,000.

No one was injured in this incident.  Baustia-Gallardo was the lone perpetrator in this incident.   Bautista-Gallardo was brought to GPD headquarters and processed for the following charges:

  • 53a-134 – Robbery 1
  • 53a-122 Larceny 1
  • 53a-61aa – Threatening (4 counts)
  • 53a-167a – Interfering with an Officer
  • 53a-182 – Breach of Peace

Bautista-Gallrado’s bond was set at $750,000.

He was unable to post this bond and at the time his arrest was announced, he remaned in custody of the Greenwich Police Dept prior to being be transported to Stamford Superior Court.
