State of CT Issues New, Steep Fee for Drivers Who Tailgate

The State of Connecticut has added new and updated laws to the books this year.

One of particular importance is a new fine for following too closely that results in a motor vehicle crash.

The new fine is $245.00.

And if the crash happens in a construction zone the fine goes up to $395.00.

Greenwich Police said that in 2017 about 36% of all crashes in Connecticut were attributed to drivers following another vehicle too closely. Of these, almost one in 4 resulted in an injury.

“Given these numbers, it is now more important than ever to pay attention while driving and give a little more distance,” Greenwich Police warn. “Drive safely.”
