Stamford Police Say Home of Barricaded Man Contained Decomposed Body

Stamford Police on Wednesday issued updated information about Tuesday’s incident involving a man barricaded inside a home on at 263 Oaklawn Ave.

On Tuesday, Police responded at approximately 9:17am, after a State Marshal contacted 911 while attempting to execute an eviction order. Upon arrival, officers determined the situation was escalating into a barricaded suspect incident.

The Stamford Police Hostage Negotiation Team arrived on scene at 9:44am and began attempts to establish communication with the suspect. The Special Response Team (SRT) was also deployed, arriving at approximately 11:40am.

A search warrant and arrest warrant for both the suspect and the residence were applied for and granted.

As officers approached the home, the suspect fired multiple rounds at two SRT BearCat vehicles, striking their windshields. SRT commanders withdrew from the immediate area and requested mutual aid. Federal, state, and municipal law enforcement agencies responded to assist.

Throughout the day, there were several exchanges of gunfire between the suspect and members of the Stamford SRT. Hostage negotiators continued communication efforts in an attempt to encourage the suspect to surrender peacefully.

At one point, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the residence. Police deployed drones to assess the suspect’s condition. While conducting an internal scan with the drone, officers observed multiple suspected explosive devices within the home, including apparent pipe bombs, grenades, and Molotov-style devices.

In accordance with state statute for officer-involved shootings, the Office of the Inspector General responded to the scene, along with the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit.

The Stamford Police Bomb Squad was deployed to render the residence safe before Major Crimes detectives could begin processing the scene. While clearing the home, a second body was discovered on the second floor. The individual appeared to be concealed and in a decomposed state. The Stamford Police Major Crimes Unit will lead the investigation into the second body, working closely with Connecticut State Police.

The suspect, who was located inside the residence with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, has been identified as Jed Parkington, 63.

“This was an extremely dangerous incident that tragically resulted in the loss of two lives,” Stamford Police said. “We are grateful for the swift response and collaboration of our law enforcement partners from across the state, as well as the assistance of Stamford Fire and EMS. Their professionalism, training, and coordinated efforts undoubtedly prevented further loss of life.”

They added that further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
