Shoplifter Evading Police Arrested after Getting Stuck in Heavy Greenwich Traffic

A Stratford woman was arrested by Greenwich Police on Sept 17 after plain clothes officers were alerted that a suspect vehicle in shoplifting investigations from neighboring jurisdictions was in the Town of Greenwich.

The incident occurred at about 3:00pm when plain clothes officers and patrol officers assigned to the Bicycle Section located the suspect vehicle parked in the area of Greenwich Avenue.

As the vehicle began to drive away, a plain clothes officer in an unmarked vehicle followed it and relayed the vehicle’s location to Bike Police.

Bike Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop for a violation and approached the suspect vehicle. Upon the officer knocking on the dark tinted window, the driver, later identified as Falynn M Arslan, 38, sped away, making several erratic lane changes, nearly causing at least two collisions.

A motor vehicle stop was eventually conducted when the vehicle became stuck in heavy traffic.

Police said that on scene investigation involved the accused making several spontaneous utterances regarding that she had screwed up and was sorry, and that she stole things because she needed the money. The investigation revealed that Ms Arslan had stolen numerous items from a business in the central business district and from a business in a neighboring jurisdiction, totaling over $2,000. Arslan was also in possession of a device commonly used to defeat locking mechanisms and security apparatus in stores.

Further investigation revealed Arslan had several extraditable warrants stemming from larceny type incidents and for violation of probation.

She was charged with Reckless Driving, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Organized Retail Theft <$10,000, Conspiracy to Commit Organized Retail Theft <$10,000, Possession of Burglar Tools, Larceny 3, and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3.

Arslan’s bond was set at $100,000, which she was unable to post. She has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Oct 1, 2025.
