Shoplifters Flee on Busy Greenwich Ave, Run Stop Signs, Crash into Police Car Twice, Officer Seriously Injured

On April 20 around 2:00pm Greenwich Police arrested a trio of alleged shoplifters in the area of 75 Greenwich Avenue.

Police say during the course of their investigation they discovered Oradell Louise Duncan, 28, of Hartford was in possession of stolen items and acted in concert with Denaisha Stephenson, 29, of Manchester, CT, and Tania Shanda Anderson, 34, of Hartford.

The total amount of items stolen was $5,411.

Police say Stephenson and Anderson, who were seen by store employees secreting items into bags, left the store, ignoring officers commands to stop. Stephenson got in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and Anderson entered the passenger side.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but Stephenson engaged them in pursuit, accelerating at a high rate of speed in an area of heavy pedestrian foot traffic, ignoring stop signs, crosswalks, and other traffic controls, endangering pedestrians.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later when officers spotted the car for a second time.

In attempting to flee, Stephenson crashed into a Greenwich Police car twice. She then exited the car and engaged officers in a brief foot pursuit.

She initially resisted officers attempts to place her in custody, resulting in serious physical injury to an officer.

Stephenson was charged with Assault a Public Safety Officer, Interfering with Officer/Resisting Arrest, Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Organized Retail Theft, Engaging Police in Pursuit and Reckless Driving. Her bond was set at $100,000.

Anderson was placed into custody without incident. She was charged with Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3 and Organized Retail Theft. Her bond was set at $100,000. Police also determined she had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in New Britain Superior Court last December. She was also charged with Failure to Appear.

Police say Ms Duncan, who was in possession of stolen items, was additionally found in possession of drugs.

Police say that initially she refused to identify herself to officers. In addition to Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Organized Retail Theft, she was charged with Interfering with Officer/Resisting Arrest and Possession of Narcotics. Her bond was set at $100,000.

All three share a date in Stamford Superior court on May 19, 2021.
