Riverside Man Charged with Assaulting Public Safety Officers

Greenwich Police arrested a Riverside man who responded to headquarters on an outstanding arrest warrant stemming back to an incident on Nov 2.

Police say they were attempting to handcuff Douglas Denunzio, 30, of Terrace Ave in Riverside to a bench to process him on charges from a different offense when he abruptly stood up and tried to run away.

Police say an officer then grabbed Denunzio by the left arm and was attempting to gain control of the suspect when he began to flail in an attempt to break free and in the process struck the officer.

While Denunzio was being fingerprinted, he swung his left arm at a different officer and cut his right arm with his fingernails, drawing blood.

Denunzio was charged with two counts of Assault of a Public Safety Officer, a Class C Felony.

Denunzio was able to post his $25,000 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 25, 2021.

Denunzio was arrested by Greenwich Police twice in August. On Aug 17 he was charged with Disorderly Conduct after he got in a fight and injured a victim. He was charged with Disorderly Conduct again on Aug 19 after a fight in which he struck the victim in the stomach.
