Rising Sacred Heart Senior Killed in Murder Suicide on Friday Morning

Update: Aug 26, 9:00pm: A funeral for Caroline Dym will be held on Wednesday, August 30, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford, NY.

Original story: Aug 25 7:00pm: A rising senior at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich was one of the victims of a double murder suicide on Friday morning in Pound Ridge.

At about 11:00am, New York State Police from the barracks in Somers and Pound Ridge Police Dept responded to a home on Fox Hill Rd where they discovered three people dead.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Steven Dym, 56, took the life of his wife Loretta, 50, and daughter, Caroline, 18, before taking his own life.

In a letter emailed to Sacred Heart families Friday night, head of school at Sacred Heart Pam Hayes announced the tragic news.

“It is with deep sorrow and shock that I tell you about the tragic emerging details of a double murder suicide of our beloved senior, Caroline Dym, and her mother and father, Hayes wrote. “This is the time when we all need to pull together to support one another and especially our students, as they deal with this situation.”

In her letter, Hayes said that on Saturday, Sacred Heart seniors and those who knew Caroline well were invited to meet with a priest, grief counselors, faculty, and psychologists.

Hayes urged families to stay close to their daughters and comfort them.

“May God grant us all His peace and grace during this difficult time,” Hayes concluded. “We are here to support one another.  At a later date, we will honor our beautiful girl.”

The Dyms’ son, 20, was away at the time of the incident.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
