Glenville Intersection Reopened after Repair to Water Main

Update: Around 3pm on Tuesday, Aug 26, the intersection at Glenville Rd and Glen Ridge Rd was open to through traffic.

Aquarion spokesman Peter Fazekis said the road is open after the repair was made and the the road made passable. He noted at some point the road will need to be repaved, and pointed out that there is also ongoing construction in the area (Genville corridor project).

Original story: After a water main break on Monday near the Glenville Shopping Center (former home to Stop & Shop and soon to be home to DeCicco & Sons Supermarket), residents are being told by Greenwich officials to expect a long term road closure.

Greenwich Police issued a traffic alert and explained that the water main break was at the intersection of Glenville Road and Glenville Street in front of the shopping center.

“The roadway is compromised and this will be a long-term closure. The water company is on scene,” Police said on Monday.

Per police Glenville Street is open for local traffic only to access side streets. Glenville Center is not accessible. Glen Ridge Road is open, but all traffic is being diverted onto Glenville Street and back out to King Street. Glenville Road traffic heading into Glenville Center is being directed up Riversville Road.

Police announced detours an alternate routes, suggesting drivers use Sherwood Avenue, Comly Avenue, or Route 1 into Port Chester and up King Street to avoid the Glenville area.

“Thank you to the public for your patience and cooperation while crews work to resolve this issue,” Police said.
