Police Make Arrest Following Attempted Fraud on Greenwich Ave

On Aug 22, Greenwich Police arrested a Maryland man following an incident on Greenwich Avenue.

Around 1pm multiple police responded to the area of 239 Greenwich Ave, the address associated with Betteridge, on a report of possible fraudulent attempt to purchase merchandise.

Descriptions of the suspects were put out over the police radio.

An officer who was working a uniformed side job in the area related via radio that he observed a male matching the description enter the passenger side of a Chrysler mini van with Maryland plates.

Another officer spotted the mini van on Arch Street, merge to the get on I-95 at north at Exit 3. The driver failed to signal a lane change and the officer stopped the car.

During the traffic stop the officer learned from dispatch that the driver, Catalin Marian Vasile, 29, of Forestville, MD, had a suspended license. She was charged with Improper Turn Signal and Driving Without License. She was released on a promise to appear.

The passenger, Cristian Cuilei, 29, of Forestville, MD, did not have a driver’s license, but provided a Romanian ID card. She has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 7, 2020.

Cuilei was charged with multiple counts of Forgery, Criminal Impersonation, Identity Theft and Larceny. His bond was set at $100,000, which he was unable to post. He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 7, 2020.
