Police Arrest Man Who Tried to Steal Bike in Old Greenwich

On the afternoon of Friday, Aug 22 Greenwich Police were dispatched to Laddins Rock Rd on a report of a man going through mailboxes and attempting to steal a bicycle belonging to a friend of the reporting party. The reporting party described the man as Hispanic with neck tattoos and wearing dark clothing.

Officers were able to locate a man matching the description from the reporting party. He was later identified as Herbito Perez, 58, of Bronx, NY.

Upon further investigation, Mr. Perez was identified on video footage provided by the reporting party that showed him walking on the driveway  toward the street with the bicycle. The reporting party advised that she confronted Perez, who then dropped the bicycle and continued walking away.

Perez admitted to officers on-scene that he had tried to take the bicycle and also had gone through residents’ mailboxes.

The reporting party for this incident also shared video of Perez walking onto  her property with a children’s push car, which was determined to belong to a neighbor. A piece of mail from a local resident was also found on Perez during his search.

Mr. Perez was charged with Criminal Attempt Larceny 5. He was released and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 5, 2025.
