Police Arrest Man Who Followed Girls on Greenwich Ave, into Starbucks

Greenwich Police on Friday said that on Wednesday, May 7, at approximately 7:03pm, officers were dispatched to the Starbucks on Greenwich Avenue following a report that two juvenile females were being followed by an unknown male.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a male matching the provided description, identified as Kevin R. Morris, 46, a Greenwich resident.

Police said that during initial questioning, Mr. Morris appeared confused and was uncertain if he had made a purchase or how long he had been in the store. Information obtained on scene from witnesses contradicted his claims, stating that Morris had not made any purchases, had not been inside the store for the amount of time he claimed, and had entered the store after following the juveniles inside.

The two juveniles had informed store staff that they felt frightened after observing Morris follow them from a nearby ice cream shop. Out of concern for their safety, they were escorted to the store’s back room by an employee while awaiting police arrival. They appeared visibly upset, stating they had run into the Starbucks in an attempt to evade Morris, who they described as making them feel unsafe.

Store staff reported that Morris entered the Starbucks and went directly into the restroom, where he remained until confronted by management. Upon exiting, Morris was asked to wait for officers and complied without incident.

During the course of the investigation, Morris admitted to following the juveniles and made an inappropriate remark about his behavior in the store bathroom.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Kevin R. Morris was placed under arrest and charged with C.G.S 53a-181 Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree.

He was held on a $50,000 bond, to be posted only at court. He was assigned a court date at Stamford Superior Court.

“The safety and well-being of our community’s youth is a top priority for the Greenwich Police Department. We thank the Starbucks staff and the reporting parties for their prompt and responsible actions,” police said in a statement released to media Friday morning.
