Pedestrian Struck in Greenwich Ave Crosswalk

On Tuesday afternoon a pedestrian was walking north in the crosswalk when a vehicle made a left turn from Greenwich Avenue onto Havemeyer Place and did not see the pedestrian.

According to Captain Mark Zuccerella, the pedestrian’s injuries were non-life threatening. he said the contact was at a slow speed.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital.

In P&Z commission meeting earlier this month Greenwich Avenue intersections were discussed. Commission chair Margarita Alban shared data on pedestrian safety, noting that Havemeyer/Arch was one of the most intensely frequented by pedestrians on Greenwich Ave.

However, crossing Havemeyer is short compared to crossing Arch, where the plan is to break up the crosswalk with an island to demark a proposed slip lane.
