Passenger in Stolen Car Charged after Fleeing from Crash

On Sunday around 12:30am, Greenwich Police responded to West Putnam Ave at the state line for a license plate reader hit on a stolen vehicle

Officers located the car and attempted to stop it on North Water Street, but the car sped away and officers lost sight of it.

The car crashed in the area of Delavan Ave at the intersection of the I95 southbound ramp at Exit 2 and the occupants fled on foot.

Investigation revealed that Jaquez Ashton Dixon, 20, of Port Chester, NY was a passenger in the stolen car that became damaged in the crash.

Dixon fled on foot and attempted to hide in the woods, prior to his arrest, losing his sneakers in the process.

Police located the sneakers near the crime scene and Mr. Dixon admitted they were his.

Dixon was charged with Criminal Trover 2 and Interfering with an Officer Resisting Arrest.

Greenwich Police explained why Mr. Dixon was charged with Criminal Trover 2 rather than Larceny.

According to Lt O’Reilly, “Mr. Dixon was not charged with larceny based on his version of how the evening unfolded. He was a passenger in the vehicle, not the operator. The trover charge likely stemmed from his knowledge that he was riding in a stolen vehicle.”

Dixon was able to post the required 10% of his $1,000 bond and was released. He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 22, 2022.
