Officer’s Arrest of Two Burglary Suspects Honored by GPD

This week Greenwich Police Chief Heavey presented Police Officer Matthew Swift with the Officer of the Month Award for his Dedication to Duty.

On May 13, 2019 Officer Swift pulled over a Honda Accord in Cos Cob that had run a stop sign on Valley Rd.

As the vehicle passed through the stop sign, Officer swift observed one of the occupants looking at him with an alarmed look. Despite being late in his shift and it raining heavily at the time he conducted a motor vehicle stop believing that there was something more going on than a motor vehicle violation.

As he was interviewing the occupants of the vehicle, he heard other officers dispatched to an interrupted burglary nearby over his radio.

Additional information was broadcasted providing a description of two suspects, which appeared to match the occupants of the Honda.  Further investigation positively identified the duo as the burglary suspects.

Officer Swift’s keen observation led to the arrest of the burglary suspects.

The Officer of the Month Award is given to a member of the Greenwich Police Dept who in any given month performs exceptional achievement in any police endeavor including extraordinary valor, investigative work, drug control and prevention, crime prevention, community policing, community relations activities, juvenile programs and traffic safety.
