Animal Control Officer (ACO) Carolyn Smith is a native of New Jersey. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. A graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Animal Sciences, ACO Smith has spent the past decade honing her skills at the Bronz Zoo as an Animal Keeper.

ACO Smith’s extensive behavioral knowledge and training have been tested with large carnivores and primates, including grizzly bears, tigers, snow leopards, African wild dogs, and gorillas.

Police Officer Guach, a seasoned law enforcement professional, brings a wealth of experience to the department. His career in public service began in 1997 with the New York City Police Department, where he served in various roles, including Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant in the Transit Division, Sergeant in Professional Standards, and the NYPD Information System Division.

Officer Guach’s commitment to service is further demonstrated by his four-year tenure in the United States Marines. He holds an associate degree in Computer Network Administration and is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Police Officer Ronald Santana was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. He graduated from SUNY Old Westbury with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Currently, Officer Santana is a member of the New York National Guard 107th Military Police Company. His previous employment was with the Transportation Security Administration in New York.

Officers Guach and Santana will begin their academy training on May 10, 2024, at the Stamford Police Academy in Stamford, CT.

ACO Smith will start working and shadowing her colleague at the Town of Greenwich Animal Control Section before she attends the Animal Control Officer Academy in June 2024.

“The Greenwich Police Department is thankful that these officers selected GPD to continue and begin their service,” the police said in an announcement. “Once certified, the Officers will provide Service, Respect, Courage, Fairness, and Diligence to the residents and visitors of the Town of Greenwich.”
