More Attempted Fraudulent Bank Transactions: Plain Clothes and Bike Patrol Police Charge Trio

Greenwich Police arrested three people on the afternoon of July 22 after responding to a report of a fraudulent transaction in progress at a bank on East Putnam Ave in the central business district.

Bike patrol officers and plain clothes officers working in the area responded and detained three suspects.

Police say Anwar David Buchanan, 21 of Douglasville, GA; Juana Maria Vega, 21, of New York, NY; and Daniel Smith, 25, of Yonkers, NY all conspired to impersonate a victim in attempt to fraudulently withdraw $2,000 from the victim’s bank account using a fraudulent Florida Driver’s License and a withdrawal slip filled out with the victim’s name and account number.

Mr. Buchanan was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 4, Conspiracy to Commit identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit/Criminal Impersonation, Forgery 2 and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2. His bond was set at $20,000, which he was unable to post. He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 5, 2022.

Ms Vega was charged with Criminal Attempt Larceny 4, Conspiracy to commit Larceny 4, Identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3, Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation, Forgery 2 and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2. Her bond was set at $20,000.

She was unable to post bond and is also due in court on Aug 5, 2022.

Mr. Smith was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 4, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation (2 counts), Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2.

Additionally a search of Mr. Smith revealed an additional fraudulent document with the photo of one of his co-conspirators and another victim’s name.

His bond was set at $20,000, which he was unable to post. He is also due in Court on Aug 5, 2022.

Greenwich Police have made several other arrests for attempted bank fraud this month.
