On Saturday Greenwich Police bicycle officers and plainclothes units were able to snag a suspect in a bank fraud incident on Greenwich Avenue shortly after it happened.
Police say around 11:40am officers responded to a bank on a report of a fraudulent transaction in progress.
Before police arrived the suspect, identified as Junior Buddington, 25, of Elkins Park, PA, attempted to travel south on Greenwich Ave after the bank declined to process his transaction. Bike patrol officers located the suspect’s vehicle on the Ave and detained him.
Plainclothes officers working in the area were able to positively identify Buddington detained by bike police.
Investigation revealed Buddington was fraudulently added to a victim’s account back in 2020to attempt a fraudulent withdrawal. However, the fraud was prevented by the bank.
Police say Buddington came to the bank to try to get account statements and personal information about the account holder with the goal of getting a small business loan using the information.
He was charged with Criminal Attempt Identity Theft 3 and Identity Theft 3.
Buddington was unable to post his $5,000 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on July 19, 2021.
