Minor Collision Leads to Multiple Charges for Cos Cob Man

Greenwich Police cars, newOn Friday, Sept. 26, at about 4:30pm Greenwich Police responded to a minor motor vehicle collision on Railroad Ave. One of the operators involved, Paul E Backus of 7 Pleasant St, Cos Cob, was found to have the odor of alcohol emanating from his breath and according to police his eyes were bloodshot and water and his speech was slurred. He then failed standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.

According to Greenwich Police, Backus did not have a valid insurance card in the vehicle and based upon the accident investigation it was learned that he turned unsafely into traffic and was charged with DWI, Operation Prohibited When Insurance Coverage Fails to Meet Minimum Requirements and Unsafe Movement. He was able to post a $250 bond and is scheduled for to appear in Stamford Court on Oct. 10.
