Man Charged with Evading after Crashing a Borrowed Car in Greenwich

Peter Lorthe, 30, of 12-1/2 New Street in Shelton was arrested on Sunday morning after allegedly fleeing a two car accident on Davis Avenue around 7:00am.

According to Greenwich Police, on Jan. 17, while en route to the scene of a reported car accident, dispatch relayed a caller had related that the operator of the offending vehicle was running north on Davis Ave, and that the driver was a heavy set black male, approximately 6 feet tall, approximately 210 pounds, wearing jeans, a white shirt and that he had long braided hair.

Upon arrival, a Honda Accord was observed with extensive damage to its right side, unoccupied on the northbound lane of travel of Davis Ave, in front of 295 Davis Ave. The vehicle had collided with the rear end of a parked vehicle.

A Connecticut Dept of Motor Vehicles check revealed that the registered owner resides on Davis Ave, approximately 200 feet from the accident scene.

Police went to the Davis Ave address of the owner of the car, Mr. Lorthe’s girlfriend and located him there. Mr. Lorthe initially denied the incident, but when presented with his cellular phone which was found in the vehicle, Lorthe admitted that he was driving the vehicle.

Mr. Lorthe was coherent, alert and showed no signs of intoxication. He was charged with Operating with a Suspended or Revoked License, Evading Responsibility and Failure to Drive to the Right. He has a court date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 22, 2016.
