Local Woman Charged for Falsely Reporting Her Car Stolen

Samantha Garcia, 20, of 26 Wilbur Peck Court was arrested after turning herself in at Greenwich Police headquarters a warrant on June 14 for an incident stemming back to May 2.

According to a Greenwich Police supplemental narrative, on May 2 Bridgeport Police were involved in a motor vehicle pursuit with a car registered to Ms. Garcia.

Unbeknownst to the officers at the time, the male suspect had a personal relationship with Garcia, and had borrowed the car from her earlier. Almost immediately after the pursuit in Bridgeport, the suspect contacted Garcia and asked her to report the car as being stolen.

Ms. Garcia called 911 to report the vehicle stolen. During the initial investigation, Garcia fabricated several improbable stories as to whom and how her car had been stolen. Her call records indicate she had contact with the Bridgeport pursuit suspect before and during her time with Greenwich Police officers.

On Tuesday Ms. Garcia was charged with Interfering with an Officer, Falsely Reporting an Incident 2nd Degree and Misuse of the 911 System.

Her bond was set at $15,000, which she was unable to post. She was transported to Stamford Superior Court.

She has a court appearance scheduled in Stamford Superior Court on June 21.
