Local Taxi Driver Assaulted, Robbed in Byram. Police Seek Tips.

police stationA local taxi driver was physically assaulted and nearly robbed on Morgan Ave in Byram Monday night.

According to Greenwich Police at approximately 4:30am an RC Taxi Driver was dispatched to Morgan Ave in Greenwich for a pickup.  The driver was flagged down near the pickup location by a lone male subject who related that he was the taxi driver’s intended fare.

The subject entered the rear of the cab and requested a destination in Port Chester, NY.

Once the cab was in motion,  the passenger suddenly grabbed the driver and started punching him and demanded the cab driver’s cash.

As the driver struggled with the suspect, the driver lost control of the vehicle.  The cab continued to roll slowly before it collided with a tree and came to rest.  The cab driver was able to flee the vehicle while the suspect remained locked in the back seat.  The cab driver ran to a nearby house seeking help, and the resident contacted 911.  The suspect jumped over the front seat backrest and exited the vehicle from the front seat and fled the area on foot. The victim suffered minor cuts, abrasions, and bruising to his head.

The suspect is described as male in his 20’s, light complexion, who spoke without a discernible accent, a scruffy beard, 5’5″ to 5’7″ tall, wearing a dark colored hoodie and possibly a baseball hat.
