Greenwich Police Track Down Locust St Hit and Run Driver

On Friday at about 10:00pm, Greenwich Police were detailed to 12 Locust Street on the report of a motor vehicle accident where the drive fled the scene. Officers responded to the area and spoke with a witness who described the vehicle as a blue foreign car, possibly a Toyota Matrix bearing NY registration plates.

A short time later, Greenwich Police located the vehicle traveling within the area. The operator, identified as Jose L Hernandez, 26, of 147-25 Northern Blvd in Flushing, NY admitted that he had got into an accident and claimed that he stopped but could not find the owner of the vehicle that he hit.

That he wasn’t sure of what to do and left the scene. A Dept of Motor Vehicles inquiry revealed Hernandez did not possess a valid license. He was placed under arrest and charged with Evading Responsibility, Unsafe movement, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License.  Hernandez is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 30. Hernandez was able to $500 cash bond and was released from custody.
