Multiple residents began posting questions late Sunday morning about what they suspected was a scam alert they received via text message.
In response the town of Greenwich issued a Scam Alert urging residents not to respond to text messages for unpaid parking invoices.
According to the alert, the texts are part of a scam, confirmed by Deputy Chief Bonney of the Greenwich Police Dept, and are not originating from the Town of Greenwich Parking Services.
Captain Smyth said, the Town of Greenwich does not attempt to solicit payment in this manner.
“No matter what type of bill a Text or Email is claiming to be for, especially if you were not expecting one, you should contact the alleged party directly and not through a link attached to the Text or Email,” he said, adding, “The Town and Police Department are looking into this incident with further details to follow when they become available.”
The Parking Services Dept urges residents to help them spread the word, and report a parking concern if you notice anything else: https://www.greenwichct.gov/2721/Parking-Concern
