Greenwich Firefighters’ Aggressive Attack Knocks Fire down Quickly on Steamboat Road

An unoccupied house on Steamboat Road was the location of a fire on Saturday around 12:45am. Several days later the area still smells of smoke.

The house, which is posted for demolition, has been unoccupied for several years.

An application to develop the property is working its way through town agencies.

The existing house dates back to1840, and sits atop ledge rock.

In fact, the house was previously posted for demolition back in 2017 after it sold on Aug 4, 2017 for $1,530,000.

More recently, it was sold from 672 Steamboat Road LLC to Tamar Nigel Andre Bundy on May 19, 2022 for $1,995,000.

According to Fire Dept Chief McHugh, “That smell will linger since the fire was only a few days ago. The fire started on the first floor near the porch. The house was boarded up and slated for demolition. There were no injuries.”

McHugh said the fire department dispatched 5 engines and 1 ladder.

“Along with our Deputy Chief our rescue from Sound Beach and Cos Cob Fire Police were on scene,” he added.

Chief McHugh said that Firefighters made an aggressive attack and knocked the fire down quickly.
